This is a highly visible senior leadership role responsible for end‑to‑end commercial delivery, strengthening client partnerships, and driving revenue growth across EMJ’s sales and client services functions.

What You’ll Own
Reporting directly to the CCO, the Commercial Director will lead and deliver EMJ’s commercial strategy across all revenue streams. This is a hands‑on leadership role where strategic vision is matched with operational delivery. You will be empowered to:
Own and execute EMJ’s commercial strategy in alignment with growth objectives.
Lead, inspire, and develop high‑performing Sales and Client Services teams.
Drive new business acquisition and maximise existing client relationships through retention, upsell, and strategic partnerships.
Ensure a seamless transition from sale to delivery with exceptional client experience at every touchpoint.
Collaborate effectively with Editorial, Marketing, Design, and Operations teams to deliver commercially effective, high‑quality solutions.
Identify and pursue new commercial opportunities including markets, products, formats, and partnerships.
Establish robust commercial processes, forecasting, and performance management frameworks to support scalable growth.
Success Measures
The Commercial Director’s success will be measured by their ability to deliver measurable business outcomes:
Revenue growth: Achieving and exceeding commercial targets.
Client retention & growth: Strong repeat business, account expansion, and long‑term partnerships.
Client experience: Consistently high client satisfaction and Net Promoter Scores (NPS).
Sales effectiveness: Healthy pipeline, strong conversion rates, and accurate forecasting.
Operational excellence: Efficient handover and delivery through Client Services, with projects delivered on time and to brief.
Team performance: Building and sustaining a high‑performing commercial organisation aligned to EMJ’s values and goals.
Who You Are
The ideal candidate is a commercially driven leader with a strong track record of building revenue, leading teams, and delivering exceptional client outcomes in a fast‑paced environment.
Experience and Skills:
Proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role (Commercial Director, Sales Director, or equivalent).
Strong background in B2B sales, account management, and client services leadership.
Experience in publishing, media, healthcare, life sciences, or related sectors preferred.
Demonstrated success in growing revenue, managing large accounts, and developing new business.
Excellent commercial acumen with strong negotiation, forecasting, and strategic planning skills.
Ability to lead, coach, and develop high‑performing teams at scale.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, both internally and externally.
