What does a typical workday look like for you?
My role involves the full 360 in the recruitment cycle so managing emails, scheduling, and conducting interviews, actively searching for our next Gold Medal Winner, and spending a significant amount of time on LinkedIn and screening CVs.
-
Can you tell us about what you did before coming to EMJ? How has it helped you with your current role?
Before joining EMJ, I worked as a recruiter at Springer Nature. This experience was invaluable in deepening my understanding of the scientific community and the significance of Open Access publishing. EMJ has taught me the importance of prioritising quality over quantity.

How is EMJ different to other workplaces?
At EMJ, I am encouraged to authentically be myself, and the company provides the platform for me to strive towards being my best self. They not only support setting goals but also actively assist in achieving them. -
Describe your proudest moment at EMJ and explain why.
My proudest moment at EMJ was finding a candidate who had initially been rejected, giving them a second chance, and witnessing their success and contributions to EMJ. Additionally, receiving feedback from the Sales team that I motivate them during our Monday morning huddles has been incredibly rewarding. -
What’s an interesting fact about you outside of work?
I have been collecting newspapers from major events around the world since I was 4 years old. Some highlights from my collection include Tiananmen Square, the collapse of the Soviet Union, Nelson Mandela's release, the OJ Simpson trial, Princess Diana's passing, the Columbine school shooting, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the elections of Barack Obama and Donald Trump, the COVID-19 pandemic, George Floyd, and more. -
How would you spend your last £1?
I would invest it in cryptocurrency. -
Who has had the most impact on your career to date and why?
My Dad. Starting as a door-to-door salesman and owning his own company within 10 years, he taught me that success is not just handed to you; you have to actively pursue it. He instilled in me the values of hard work, goal setting, and the importance of not being afraid to stand out. And never to be boring. -
What’s your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)?
Completing the Camino de Santiago and pouring myself a VERY big glass from the wine fountain at end. -
